Welcome to the Avondale Heights Community Garden, a vibrant green space located in the heart of Moonee Valley, in the north-western suburbs of Melbourne. We are passionate about organic gardening, sustainable living, and fostering a strong sense of community.

What is a Community Garden?

Even if you don't have a backyard, you can enjoy the benefits of gardening at Avondale Heights! Rent a spacious 2.4 x 4.8 meter plot at Avondale Heights Community Garden. We provide all the tools you need to cultivate a thriving harvest,  whether you're a seasoned gardener or a curious beginner, we're here to support you on your journey towards growing healthy, delicious food.

Our Garden Features:

  • Organic practices: We promote and encourage organic gardening methods to protect our environment and produce the healthiest food possible.
  • Fruit orchard: Enjoy the bounty of our thriving fruit orchard, bursting with seasonal favorites.
  • Remnant grassland: Explore our unique remnant grassland, a haven for local wildlife and a beautiful natural feature of the garden.
  • Frog bog: planted with indigenous plants, providing a vital habitat for local amphibians.
  • Bee hives: run by a keen member, promoting pollination and honey production.
  • Borders overflowing: flowering plants to attract butterflies, bees, and other beneficial insects.
  • Shared tools: We provide the necessary tools you need to get started, from shovels and rakes to wheelbarrows and watering cans.
  • Regular activities: Participate in our vibrant community through activities like food swaps, herb circles, yoga on Sunday mornings, and other community events.
  • Community gardener social space: Relax and connect with fellow gardeners in our designated social space. Share gardening tips, swap seeds, or simply have a chat surrounded by the beauty of the garden.
